I was making a corny joke to my Director, as I am wont to do, when I realized that my corny joke could make a real impact in the world. The basic gist was that I did a “book drop” instead of a “mic drop.” And this is what we did with that idea:
My idea is to make this a down-and-dirty campaign to help #saveIMLS. State a fact or tell a brief story about how IMLS impacts you, your library, or your community. Slap a #BOOKDROP at the end, and then share. It’s that simple.
I had to play around a bit on Windows Movie Maker to figure out how to make the hashtag and the public domain sound effect work – so if you have any questions about how to make a video of your own, then feel free to ask in the comments or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ETA: Wranting Writer suggested that TAB groups would have fun making their own #IMLSBOOKDROP videos – that’s such a great idea!!!
ETA2: I just realized that there already is a different sort of #bookdrop campaign out there, so you can still have #BOOKDROP in your video, but you should mark it as #IMLSBOOKDROP in order to keep these two things separate. I’ve tweaked my post to reflect this change.
Now go spread the word about how libraries impact lives and why IMLS matters!!!
